Vigilance (Psychology)

Perception and Psychophysics Effects

In modern psychology, vigilance, also termed sustained concentration, is defined as the ability to maintain concentrated attention over prolonged periods of time. Research into the phenomenon expanded significantly from the 1940s onward as technological advances created a growing need for people to sustain monitoring attention across domains including aviation, quality control and security operations.
