Viktor Frankl (1905 to 1997) was an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist who survived multiple Nazi concentration camps during the Second World War and afterward founded logotherapy, an existential approach holding that the search for meaning, not pleasure or power, is the primary human motivation. His account of the camps and his method became foundational to existential and humanistic psychology.
