Connectionism

Cognitive Psychology

Connectionism is an approach to studying human mental processes and cognition that uses mathematical models called connectionist networks, or artificial neural networks. These networks represent mental phenomena as patterns of activity distributed across many simple, interconnected processing units rather than as symbols manipulated by explicit rules, positioning connectionism as an alternative within cognitive psychology to the classical, rule-based computational view of the mind.
