Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936) was a Russian and Soviet experimental neurologist and physiologist known for discovering classical conditioning through his experiments with dogs. He also conducted major research on digestive physiology, for which he was awarded the 1904 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine; the Nobel recognized his digestion research, not the conditioning work he is best remembered for.
